The CLRG Advantage

Research and training at CLRG relies on the experience of long-term scholars and practitioners. Our consulting services are drawn from the expertise of the Center’s staff, UP faculty and affiliate experts who have knowledge of both theory and practice. We continue to provide the public space for an informed debate on local governance issues as we continue to support UP’s mission of “Shaping Minds that Shape the Nation.”

Learning

We teach what we produce. We are constantly in search of innovative, pioneering and replicable local governance practices that can be our case study subjects. Our research feeds into the modules for our course offerings. This knowledge base enables us to readily provide in-house solutions and advise as complemented by the expertise of our affiliates.

Praxis

With our nearly 50 years of close collaboration with local governments, we understand the uniqueness of the local government political and administrative environment.  Combining our grasp of theory and practice, our courses and assistance are constantly being updated to respond to the needs of stakeholders. Learning at CLRG offers participants a chance to understand new approaches as well as reflect on their own personal and professional experiences.
We emphasize collegial learning where more insights can be gained both from our experts’ inputs as well as participants’ sharing of experiences

Dialogue

In the spirit of academic freedom, CLRG also provides a
neutral venue to discuss and debate the burning issues affecting local governments. Our forums and conferences bring a good mix of stakeholders who can provide different perspectives on an issue and provide a more diverse policy recommendation.

Solutions

As the role of local governance becomes more important even from a national perspective, we reach out to CSOs, corporations, the media and private organizations who seek to have a deeper understanding of how to engage local governments as regulators and as partners. Because the Center is partly funded through the annual budget passed by Congress, our subsidized services for local governments would only require a reasonable co-payment for operations and management costs. We guarantee value for your investment since we hold fast to the standards that the University of the Philippines is known for.

The Oblation is UP's symbol for service to the nation. Aside from educating students, UP also extends practical help to various sectors of society. CLRG is part of this extension program.
