The dissemination event for the m-Money Systematic review was held on June 17, 2016 at the Microtel Libis in Quezon City, Philippines.

The systematic review team was headed by Erwin A. Alampay, Senior Research Fellow at LirneAsia and currently Director of the Center for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG). Other members of the team included Dr. Goodiel Moshi, Ms. Ishita Ghosh, Ms. Juliana Harshanti, and Ms. Mina Peralta.

At the Seventh of CLRG's Past Forward Lecture Series, Dr. Perla Legaspi, former Director of the Local Government Center (now CLRG), said that the DILG's Client Satisfaction Index System (CSIS) does not accurately reflect citizens' satisfaction of local government performance. The lecture was held last 29 January 2016 at NCPAG, UP Diliman, Quezon City. Legaspi claims that the CSIS instrument may unduly over-represent respondents who do not know or have not availed of LGU services. She also noted the complex methodology for the selection of respondents.

CLRG is currently contributing to the development of a highly-functional and transformative Open Data (OD) Ecosystem in the Philippines with its action- research entitled “Harnessing  Open Data to Promote Transparency and Accountability in the Philippines at the Local Level”.  Led by Dir. Erwin Alampay and Ms. Pauline Bautista,   CLRG is studying the open data needs of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) engaged in Citizens’ Participatory Audit (CPA), Bottom Up Budgeting BUB), Social Audit and Participatory Budgeting.
A total of 28 participants, composed of both incumbent and aspiring local legislators aimed to improve their legislative skills through the 49th installment of the Development Legislation Enhancement Course.
 
Coming from different parts of the country, the healthy mix of participants went through a five-day training program, seeking to develop their legislative skills, and for some to be oriented on how local legislative bodies work.

CLRG and NCPAG's Public Administration 208 masteral class convened a forum on El Nino climate financing last 27 November 2015 with Presidential Adviser on Environmental Protection as keynote speaker.

The forum discussed the financing facilities that local governments can tap into as well as the challenges to access, local capacities and understanding of issues on climate change.
The continuing partnership of the Local Government of Quezon City through its Barangay Operations Office and CLRG produced new graduates of the Harnessing Barangay Development Capacities or HBDC last November 25, 2015.

With 41 QC barangay officials and a guest participant from Cainta, Rizal, the executive and managerial course has once again contributed....

Dirk Breuer, 38, a visiting researcher at CLRG in 2003, was elected by an absolute majority of 56% of all votes in the City Hurth, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

Back then he undertook research in the Philippines for his Diploma in Administrative Sciences at the University of Konstanz. Prior to being mayor he served at the German Federal Parliament, Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the City of Bonn and at the Hurth City Council.

In celebration of its 75th Founding Anniversary, the local government of Quezon City recently conducted an international conference titled “Future Perfect: Cities at the Forefront of Change and Development.”

Held last 8-9 October 2015 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, the conference was organized by UP NCPAG and CLRG on behalf of Quezon City. Mayor Herbert Bautista, Quezon City’s chief executive, graced the occasion and welcomed around 300 participants from parts of the Philippines and the world.

Laos government officials learn from Philippine experiences

​Two capacity development programs for two CLRG partner local government associations started last September 2014 with the first installments of course modules which will be delivered quarterly.
Seventeen officials from the Lao PDR visited the Philippines to learn about the country’s local economic development (LED) and poverty reduction practices and policies.

Network sets platform for citizen involvement in LGU transparency

The Citizen Action Network for Accountability (CANA) and its website was launched on 2 July 2013 in Quezon City. CANA plans to set up 28 citizen action groups all over the Philippines to help in monitoring LGU transparency and accountability. 

CLRG researchers examine Katarungang Pambarangay

Two CLRG researchers are undertaking research on the relevance and effectiveness of the quasi-judicial Katarungang Pambarangay (or Village Justice), one of the indigenous local justice systems  in the Philippines and has been strengthened under the Local Government Code.

The Center for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG) successfully conducted a training program for local chief executives and their staff. Attended by newly-elected officials from various LGUs in the country, the program ran from June 13 to 15, 2013 at the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG) of the University of the Philippines.
